About the Estate

The Ian Hornak Estate Administration was established following the artist’s death in 2002 and is dedicated to the preservation, documentation, and continued study of the life and work of Ian Hornak (1944–2002).

The Estate’s mission is to maintain and expand the historical record surrounding Hornak’s career, encourage scholarly research, assist museums and institutions, and preserve archival materials relating to one of the distinctive voices in late twentieth-century American realism.

Since 2002, the Estate has organized and supported museum exhibitions, facilitated acquisitions by public institutions, and worked to document the artist’s paintings, drawings, prints, and archival materials. Through these efforts, Hornak’s work has entered numerous museum collections and has been the subject of retrospective exhibitions in the United States.

The Ian Hornak Archive was created to serve as a resource for collectors, scholars, curators, students, and admirers of the artist’s work. As an ongoing project, the archive continues to expand through the discovery of new documentation, publications, photographs, and previously unrecorded artworks.

The Estate welcomes communication from collectors, museums, researchers, and members of the public who possess information relating to Ian Hornak and his work. Owners of paintings, drawings, prints, and archival materials are encouraged to contact the Estate with questions, photographs, provenance information, or historical documentation.

The Estate does not sell artwork through this website. However, inquiries regarding collections, research, provenance, and privately owned works are welcomed.
